Our Work at the Intersection of Faith & Justice
Kaleo Center exists to enliven and provoke the best and deepest passions in persons of faith and in people committed to spiritual practice. We are building a multi-faith movement where spirituality nurtures our work for justice and justice nurtures our spirituality. We are uncompromisingly pro-LGBTQ, with racial justice and solidarity at the core of all our work. Kaleo Center exists because justice and right relationship are the heart and soul of faith. Throughout all of our work, we yearn towards a community rooted in love, and strengthened by the beautiful differences that sustain and embolden us.
Kaleo Center for Faith, Justice & Social Transformation has four strategic priorities that guide our work:

Igniting Prophetic Imagination
Kaleo Center works to restore to life, enliven and provoke the best and deepest passions in persons of faith. Grounded in the prophetic tradition of justice, we respond to the call for the healing of the world. We struggle together, we invite others, we push forward; inspiring and creating concrete avenues for change as we imagine new shared horizons.
Preparing Faithful Leaders
Kaleo Center exists because justice and right relationship are the heart and soul of faith. The work of justice is not a solo activity, and it requires special skills in a complex world.
We call on people of faith to live out a shared vision of the common good through the work of encounter, education, advocacy, organizing, catalyzing and proclamation.
Connecting the Community
Kaleo Center serves as a practical movement hub, working to nurture movements led by the people most impacted by the systems of oppression that separate us all from our full humanity. Kaleo Center convenes, binds together, and unites allies for a more fair and just world.
Advancing the Praxis of Social Transformation
Kaleo Center approaches its work through the lens of praxis – a living and emergent process by which theory is put into practice and practice informs theory, in a continuous feedback loop: creating, acting, reflecting, refining, and recreating. Using this lens, Kaleo convenes faith institutions and seminaries within a burgeoning national field of practical, justice-based programs within seminary education.
Kaleo Center engages in innovative research to advance the art of social transformation — and we also participate actively in the learning process with our students and community partners, refining methods and making improvements as we go. We understand that true transformation is not a linear progression but an iterative cycle of action and reflection, requiring our best thinking, our deepest commitment and our faithful action.
